Outdoor Internet Access in New York

Associated Press

Madison, WI, Feb. 10th 2002 - New York--It is being billed as the first outdoor Internet-access terminal. And it just happens to double as a traditional pay phone.

The first device is being unveiled Sunday in New York City. It includes a screen, keyboard and camera. It is also designed to resist weather adn vandals.

People will be able to take pictures and then send them over the Internet. The price? One dollar buys four minutes.

The company installing the phone plans a 30-day trial and hopes to install more in other locations.

People will also be able to make an old-fashioned phone call to anywhere in the world for just 25 cents a minute.
